Una mujer introvertida, que eligió ser fuerte, que aún con la
adversidad no ha parado de alcanzar cada uno de sus sueños.
2 ¿Qué significado tiene para ti el Día Internacional de la Mujer?
Es un día para recordar las batallas de la mujer frente al mundo,
resaltar el valor y la fuerza que nos distingue. “Para mí ser mujer
es trascender mucho más allá de lo biológico, del género o de la
apariencia misma. Ser mujer es sinónimo de fortaleza, porque
estamos en constante lucha interna y externa; defendemos
nuestros ideales ante cualquier obstáculo y barrera, que la misma
sociedad impone, sabemos cómo sobresalir, levantarnos y
demostrar ante cualquier circunstancia renacemos, renovamos y
seguimos avanzando.”
3 ¿Cuáles son las instituciones con las que cuenta tu país para
combatir la discriminación?
Principalmente el Comité presidencial para Combatir la
discriminación y el racismo -CODISRA-, el Ministerio Público a
través de la Fiscalía contra la discriminación y la Procuraduría de
los Derechos Humanos.
4 ¿Cómo calificarías las condiciones de accesibilidad e inclusión
laboral en tu país?
Aún existen demasiadas barreras físicas, pero sobre todo
actitudinales en la sociedad y que a su vez dificultan la
accesibilidad y la inclusión. Si nuestra cultura fueran menos
egoístas, pensaran en los demás y vieran más allá de lo evidente,
adoptando el altruismo y excluyendo el estigmatismo, sin duda
alguna el tema de accesibilidad e inserción laboral, para empezar,
es un buen punto de partida para avanzar de manera integral e
indiscriminada.
El esfuerzo de pocos, como los activistas, sigue contribuyendo a
cerrar las brechas de desigualdad.
5 En tu opinión, ¿Cuáles son los problemas más significativos que
enfrenta la mujer con discapacidad en tu país?
La discriminación y la violencia de género, a mí parecer, de esto se
derivan todos los obstáculos que retrasan y a veces evitan que
nosotras las mujeres logremos desarrollarnos libre y plenamente
en cualquier contexto de la vida.
Una condición diferente no nos define ni es determinante de
nuestra identidad o capacidad
6 ¿Qué significa para ti la frase empoderamiento femenino?
Es indispensable no tergiversar o mal interpretar el término
empoderamiento, actualmente la palabra se emplea para
vandalizar “justificadamente”; debemos analizar, sensibilizar y
reconocer que se refiere o al menos hace alusión a la adquisición
de independencia que conlleva un reconocimiento por méritos
propios en una escala social estereotipada.
7 Muchas personas en Centroamérica buscan migrar a Estados
Unidos en busca de un mejor futuro... ¿Qué mensaje le ofrecerías
a los diferentes gobiernos para que protejan siempre los derechos
humanos de las personas migrantes?
Se debe proteger y acoger a cada persona sin distinción, pues cada
uno puede y debe gozar de lo establecido constitucionalmente,
como lo señala la declaración Universal de los Derechos Humanos.
8 ¿Consideras que el mundo en general ha dado suficiente
protección a las personas con discapacidad durante la pandemia?
El apoyo e interés se agradece, es un tema que podemos abordar
y priorizar para una inclusión notable y excepcional con el respaldo
de las autoridades correspondientes.
9 Estarás representando a tu país en la Segunda Edición de Miss
Wheelchair World a celebrarse en México
¿Qué te motivó a
formar parte de este evento?
El fervor y afán de evidenciar el potencial, fortaleza y las
capacidades que las mujeres hemos desarrollado en cualquier
ámbito, con el objetivo de empoderar a las mujeres y suprimir la
exclusión social.
10 ¿Qué mensaje le brindas a las demás chicas que estarán
compartiendo contigo esta experiencia?
¡No olviden lo fuertes que son…atrévanse a brillar más!.
Me siento
emocionada y agradecida por rodearme y compartir con mujeres
poderosas.
11 ¿Qué mensaje le brindarías a Pahola Solano quien representó
a Guatemala en la Primera Edición de Miss Wheelchair World?
Las palabras no alcanzan y solo lo puedo resumir en que: ¡Eres
una mujer admirable!, ejemplo de vida y perseverancia. Gracias
por motivarnos.
12 ¿Sueñas con la corona? ¿Qué significaría para ti obtenerla y que
responsabilidad traería consigo?
Es un sueño compartido, esto significaría el triunfo y
reconocimiento de mi país, Guatemala, y de su gente. Donde me
encuentre no solo represento a Miss Wheelchair o a mi nación sino
que también al 15% de la población a nivel mundial con
discapacidad.
13 En tu opinión, ¿Todas las chicas participantes son ganadoras?
Sí… ¡Somos ganadoras!; Ya que hemos destacado en diferentes
áreas de especialización o enfoque, así como esforzado para
cumplir nuestros sueños profesionales y metas personales, los que
ahora podremos compartir con el resto de las chicas. Cada una
sabe lo que ha atravesado para llegar hasta donde está… y eso ¡es
una VICTORIA!
14 ¿Qué mensaje le brindas a tu familia y seres queridos de cara a
tu participación en Miss Wheelchair World?
Cada día he logrado llegar un poco más lejos, reconozco que nada
de esto sería posible sin el apoyo incondicional de mi madre,
familia y buenos amigos, a quienes Dios ha puesto en mi vida.
A “Miss WheelChair Guatemala”.
15 ¿Cuál sería para ti la diferencia entre una modelo y una miss?
La diferencia entre ambas es nula, ambas han estado en constante
preparación para afrontar los retos que se le presenten.
16 México y Guatemala son países hermanos y vecinos...
¿Algún mensaje que le ofrezcas al pueblo mexicano que te recibirá
en octubre en Rosarito Baja California?
Visitar México, nuestro país hermano, es una experiencia única de
la cual nos sentimos honrados de compartir identidad. Es muy
constructivo y enriquecedor convivir con personas cálidas, ya que
abre las puertas fronterizas y culturalmente hacía el rediseño del
concepto establecido para una modelo por la sociedad.
In your own words, who is María de León?
An introverted woman, who chose to be strong, who despite adversity has not stopped achieving each of her dreams.
2 What meaning does International Women's Day have for you?
It is a day to remember the battles of women against the world, highlight the courage and strength that distinguishes us. “For me, being a woman is transcending far beyond what is biological, gender or appearance itself. Being a woman is synonymous with strength, because we are in constant internal and external struggle; we defend our ideals in the face of any obstacle and barrier that society itself imposes, we know how to stand out, rise up and demonstrate in any circumstance that we are reborn, renew and continue advancing.”
3 What are the institutions that your country has to combat discrimination?
Mainly the Presidential Committee to Combat Discrimination and Racism -CODISRA-, the Public Ministry through the Prosecutor's Office against discrimination and the Human Rights Ombudsman.
4 How would you rate the conditions of accessibility and labor inclusion in your country?
There are still too many physical barriers, but above all attitudinal ones in society, which in turn hinder accessibility and inclusion. If our culture were less selfish, thought of others and saw beyond the obvious, adopting altruism and excluding stigmatism, without a doubt the issue of accessibility and employment, to begin with, is a good starting point to move forward from comprehensive and indiscriminate manner. The efforts of a few, like the activists, continue to contribute to closing the gaps in inequality.
5 In your opinion, what are the most significant problems faced by women with disabilities in your country?
Discrimination and gender violence, in my opinion, from this derive all the obstacles that delay and sometimes prevent us women from being able to develop freely and fully in any context of life. A different condition does not define us or determine our identity or capacity
6 What does the phrase female empowerment mean to you?
It is essential not to misrepresent or misinterpret the term empowerment, currently the word is used to vandalize "justifiably"; We must analyze, raise awareness and recognize that it refers or at least alludes to the acquisition of independence that entails recognition for its own merits on a stereotyped social scale.
7 Many people in Central America seek to migrate to the United States in search of a better future... What message would you offer to the different governments so that they always protect the human rights of migrants?
Each person must be protected and welcomed without distinction, since each one can and must enjoy what is constitutionally established, as indicated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
8 Do you think that the world in general has given enough protection to people with disabilities during the pandemic?
The support and interest is appreciated, it is an issue that we can address and prioritize for a notable and exceptional inclusion with the support of the corresponding authorities.
9 You will be representing your country in the Second Edition of Miss Wheelchair World to be held in Mexico
What motivated you to be part of this event?
The fervor and desire to highlight the potential, strength and capabilities that women have developed in any field, with the aim of empowering women and suppressing social exclusion.
10 What message do you give to the other girls who will be sharing this experience with you?
Don't forget how strong you are… dare to shine brighter!
I feel excited and grateful to surround myself and share with powerful women.
11 What message would you give to Pahola Solano who represented Guatemala in the First Edition of Miss Wheelchair World?
Words are not enough and I can only summarize it as: You are an admirable woman! An example of life and perseverance. Thank you for motivating us.
12 Do you dream of the crown? What would it mean to you to obtain it and what responsibility would it bring?
It is a shared dream, this would mean the triumph and recognition of my country, Guatemala, and its people. Wherever I am, I not only represent Miss Wheelchair or my nation, but also the 15% of the world's population with disabilities.
13 In your opinion, are all the participating girls winners?
Yes… We are winners! Since we have excelled in different areas of specialization or focus, as well as made an effort to fulfill our professional dreams and personal goals, which we will now be able to share with the rest of the girls. Each one knows what she has been through to get to where she is… and that is a WIN!
14 What message do you give to your family and loved ones regarding your participation in Miss Wheelchair World?
Every day I have managed to go a little further, I recognize that none of this would be possible without the unconditional support of my mother, family and good friends, whom God has placed in my life. To “Miss WheelChair Guatemala”.
15 What would be the difference between a model and a miss?
The difference between the two is null, both have been in constant preparation to face the challenges that arise.
16 Mexico and Guatemala are sister countries and neighbors... Any message that you offer to the Mexican people that will receive you in October in Rosarito Baja California?
Visiting Mexico, our brother country, is a unique experience of which we feel honored to share identity. It is very constructive and enriching to live with warm people, since it opens the border doors and culturally led to the redesign of the concept established for a model by society.
